masc. dahl; lentil curry; sauce ●


sūpa 2

masc. soup ●


Pronunciation

'ū' is pronounced the same as pāḷi 'u', except timing is held twice as long.

so 'soup' is pronounced same as 'sūp'.

♦ yāvajīvampi ce bālo,
Though all his life a fool
paṇḍitaṃ payirupāsati.
associates with a wise man,
♦ na so dhammaṃ vijānāti,
he no more comprehends the Truth
dabbī sūpa-rasaṃ yathā.
than a spoon tastes the flavor of the soup.
