Sujato's translation of dhamma as 'thought', is (was) wrong (manasā dhammaṁ viññāya)

In the context of 6 sense organs coming into contact with 6 objects that senses can know, Sujato (in 2018 edition) translations had the wrong translation dhamma = 'thought'. The reason that is wrong, is because the objects coming into the 6 sense faculties are raw sensory data. "thought", is most commonly understood to be verbal, linguistic, mentally recited words used in the oral tradition to encode the Buddha's Dhamma instructions. You can see that B. Bodhi's translation of 'dhamma' as mental phenomena preserves that raw sensory data. So does Thanissaro's , dhamma = idea. I see that in 2025, sometime after 2018 Sujato corrected his translation and interpretation of 'dhamma' in this context to 'idea', same as Thanissaro.   B.   B. Bodhi, Brahmali translate saį¹…kappo as “intention”. Thanissaro has “resolve” Sujato has  saį¹…kappo  =  “thought” the vast majority of the time. "samāhita" is past participle of "samādhi": you wouldn't know it reading Sujato's translations of suttas

  past participle definiton: the form of a verb,  typically ending in -ed in English,  which is used in forming perfect and passive tenses and sometimes as an adjective,  e.g. looked in have you looked?, lost in lost property. samādhi = undistractible-lucidity [with regard to four noble truths, reality, etc.] samādhi is not "stillness", is not "serenity" (passaddhi or samatha is more properly described as 'serenity' or 'stillness'). If you had to make a connection between "stillness" and "samādhi" in the four jhānas, you could say the defilements and hindrances are temporarily stilled. But it's improper to translate with a single word, "samādhi" <-> "stillness", because the sutta passages would make no sense.
