37. The Simile of the Sun (1st)
“SÅ«riyassa, bhikkhave, udayato etaį¹ƒ pubbaį¹…gamaį¹ƒ etaį¹ƒ pubbanimittaį¹ƒ, yadidaį¹ƒ—aruį¹‡uggaį¹ƒ.
“monks, the dawn is the forerunner and precursor of the sunrise.
Evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno catunnaį¹ƒ ariyasaccānaį¹ƒ yathābhÅ«taį¹ƒ abhisamayāya etaį¹ƒ pubbaį¹…gamaį¹ƒ etaį¹ƒ pubbanimittaį¹ƒ, yadidaį¹ƒ—sammādiį¹­į¹­hi.
In the same way, right view is the forerunner and precursor of truly comprehending the four noble truths.
Tassetaį¹ƒ, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno pāį¹­ikaį¹…khaį¹ƒ:
A monk with right view can expect to truly understand:
‘idaį¹ƒ dukkhan’ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ƒ pajānissati … pe … ‘ayaį¹ƒ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā’ti yathābhÅ«taį¹ƒ pajānissati.
‘This is suffering’ … ‘This is the origin of suffering’ … ‘This is the cessation of suffering’ … ‘This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’.
Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ‘idaį¹ƒ dukkhan’ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yo … pe … ‘ayaį¹ƒ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā’ti yogo karaį¹‡Ä«yo”ti.
That’s why you should practice meditation …”    







Connection here between singular focus of samādhi (ekagga), implies leading to right view, and perhaps a pun on ek'-agga being a peak of a mountain.
