FLT ultimate wedge cushion face off

Conclusion

To cut to the chase, the best meditation cushion I've ever sat on, and I've tried more options than most people can even imagine, is a combination of using a yoga wedge, and the thermarest.  Other inflatable air cushions the same dimensions as the thermarest work just as well. Thermarest, I've been using their camping 6' long sleeping pad (same foam inflatable material as seat cushion, but single camping bed size) for decades. I sleep on one every night, ucca sayana, maha sayana to the limit baby, so I'm quite happy with their brand and quality.

I tested all of these setups for at least 2 hour long sits in full lotus. Sitting for 30min, it's not easy to discern smaller differences, but after 2 hours, if there are problems you'll know.

Klymit has lifetime replacement warranty

And the model I bought was a closeout 50% discount.
The Klymit cushion 12.5 x 14 x 1.5", is smaller than thermarest 16 x 12 x 1.5 in, and that's really unfortunate. Because between the ridge design, and the 2" smaller length, after two hours of sitting, or even far less, some of the ribs/ridges can pinch the edges of your legs/seat a little.

The workaround for this, is put two klymit cushions side by side. Then the extra width ensures full support for your but and legs, and even though you can still feel the ridges a little bit, not enough to cause discomfort even after sitting 2 hours.

What is nice about the klymit, is their folded/rolled up deflated form is super compact and easy to travel with. And the lifetime replacement warranty.

So having two klymit seat cushions stacked on top of each other, also works out as a nice camping pillow, which you wouldn't get from a single thermarest seat.

The contestants

1. Klymit V 2017(?) model, 15$,  inflatable seat cushion 12.5 x 14 x 1.5"
2. cosmic cushion, 60$,  -crescent wedge shape,  mine is regular size, buckwheat hull filling
3. thermarest 2017 model, 20$,  16 x 12 x 1.5 inches ; 5 ounces
4. teton  18$, 17 x 12 x 1.5-In, 1.28oz

yoga wedges 20 x 6.5 x 2 in, 6oz

I tried 3 different brands, they have the same exact dimensions and foam feels about same level of denseness (doesn't deform even when you stand your whole body weight on it).

1. hugger mugger, approx. 15$
2. gaiam, approx 15$,
3. "yoga direct corp" bulk order, approx 7$ each when I bought and shipped 24 of them.

The yoga wedge is a very versatile tool that can be used in many different ways to add support and length for many different postures. For example, the wedge can be placed under your heels, sit bones, or knees when practicing forward-bending poses to make it easier to place your hands flat on the floor without compromising correct form and posture. Our high-density foam yoga wedges are made of non-toxic eco scratch-resistant EVA foam.

The Cosmic Cushion is our own patented breakthrough design and has meditators raving! The Cosmic Cushion's three core features work in harmony to provide supreme comfort during meditation. This cushion's wedge profile tilts the pelvis slightly forward, helping you maintain the proper forward curve in your lower back while meditating. The Cosmic Cushion's tapering wings support the entire length of your thighs, and this even weight distribution eliminates restlessness and keeps your legs from falling asleep. The curved heel cradle is tailored to fit either heel snugly, allowing you to draw your feet in close to your torso, minimizing stress to your hips and knees.

Advice to younger meditators on jhāna, sex, porn, masturbation

Someone asked: Is porn considered harmful sexual.activity? I don't have a sex life because I don't have a partner and I don't wish to engage in casual sex so I use porn to quench the biological urge to orgasm. I can't see that's it's harmful because nobody is being forced into it. The actors are all paid well and claim to enjoy it etc. The only harm I can see is that it's so accessible these days on smart devices and so children may access it but I believe that this is the parents responsibility to not allow unsupervised use of devices etc. Views? Frankk response: In another thread, you asked about pleasant sensations and jhāna.  I'm guessing you're young, so here's some important advice you won't get from suttas   if you're serious about jhāna.  (since monastics are already celibate by rule)   If you want to attain stable and higher jhānas,   celibacy and noble silence to the best of your ability are the feedstock and prerequiste to tha...

SN 48.40 Ven. Thanissaro comments on Ven. Sunyo's analysis

This was Ven. Sunyo's analysis of SN 48.40: https://notesonthedhamma.blogspot.com/2024/05/exciting-news-honest-ebt-scholars-like.html And here is Ven. Thanissaro's response to that analysis: I think there’s a better way to tackle the issue of SN 48:40 than by appealing to the oldest layers of commentarial literature. That way is to point out that SN 48:40, as we have it, doesn’t pass the test in DN 16 for determining what’s genuine Dhamma and what’s not. There the standard is, not the authority of the person who’s claiming to report the Buddha’s teachings, but whether the teachings he’s reporting are actually in accordance with the principles of the Dhamma that you know. So the simple fact that those who have passed the Buddha’s teachings down to us say that a particular passage is what the Buddha actually taught is not sufficient grounds for accepting it. In the case of the jhānas—the point at issue here— we have to take as our guide the standard formula for the jhānas, a...
